Your computer have 3GB memory? Or did you set minecrafts max memory to 3GB and then it changed it back to 1GB itself after the crash?

The computer has 4GB of memory. I believe it was at 2GB originally, then I changed it to 3GB because of a series of crashes and was advised to make it higher. They were resolved, and I left it at 3GB. It suddenly started crashing and it changed itself to 1GB and I cannot get it any higher

Alright, i've been thinking. Your computer is running a 32 bit lemon.
And because of the limitations of the 32 bit lemon it isn't possible for it to access more then a little over 1,5GB memory.
So giving minecraft access to more then 1,5GB means that the lemon tries to access memory that doesn't exist, causing it to combust.
So while running a 32 bit lemon you'll want to keep your max memory at 1,5 or bellow to keep your house from burning down.

Lemon = Java
Combust = crash
house from burning down = minecraft from crashing

ah, I see now. So it might be in my interests to now get a 64 bit lemon? Perhaps thats where I went wrong, because I updated with a 32 bit lemon over a 64 bit lemon.

EDIT: Well I just updated it and I'm still getting the same crash with the same problem.

Make life take the 32 bit lemon back.
Or life will tell you it don't want your 64 bit lemon and ask you what it's suposed to to with it.
No one knows why it prefers 32 bit lemons, so if you want to know you'll have to demand to see life's manager.

Life = your computer
take back = uninstall

Well, that's odd. Though 64 bit java is a good thing anyway as long as you have a 64 bit system.
It might be caused by your graphic card drivers then, so updating them could be worth a shot.

How would I go about updating the graphic card drivers? Also it may be relevant or not, but I can run normal minecraft fine without any problem whatsoever, so this problem has something to do with FTB itself.

You'll need to figure out what graphic card your computer have.
One way to find out is to type dxdiag in the start menu search field and look at the tab named display there.
Then go to the manufacturers home page and download the drivers from there.

Could you try to disable every mod in one of the mod packs and see if the problem still persist?
