When I try and play feed the beast it installs everything sets it up and appears to work fine. As soon as it is done with the fml is setting up your minecraft environment part it goes to black minecraft screen and insta-quits. I am on make os x and am using java 7. I am also using the jar launcher.

Most likely you'r using java 32bit and have raised the max memory setting in the launcher beyond 1gb.
Setting it back to 1gb or uninstalling java 32bit and installing java 64 bit (if you have 64bit OS!) should solve the problem.

Try deleting the folder "C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\ftblauncher", then delete the launcher and the folders it made.
Now download the launcher again from the ftb site and make a new clean folder on your desktop for your launcher instead of just running the launcher directly from your desktop.

I'm having the exact same problem. i tried deleting all the files and re-downloading, but it just keeps crashing as soon as the minecraft screen comes up. The ram is set at 1gb
Aha! I had this problem. If you went into the IRC channel, you'd notice it in the MOTD. The solution: Go back to Java 6 and uninstall 7.

Calamity blue I have triedd that about 5 times now and when I enter java -version at the terminal it still says java 7. After I enter the third command it says not a directory.
