Windows .exe Crash on trying to find recipes for certain items

Launcher version:current(and previous)
Minecraft version:1.4.2
Java version:7 i think
Duplicating error:finding recipe for red portal gun, music disk want you gone, and uses for torch berries.
crash log:torchberries is first file, music disk is second, and portalgun is third.

Not mentioned in the OP, I found this crash as well. Important to note the crash occurs when searching within the Creative Mode inventory. The same items can be searched within NEI with no problem. Seems to occur with Balsa Saplings and similar. When viewed in NEI they have a flame texture. Or maybe mine is an unrelated crash.

Were you in Cheat, Recipe or Utility mode?

cheat. i pressed r for both the disk and gun and u for the berries

Well, you aren't going to get any recipes in cheat mode
See if you still crash while in recipe mode.

ill try that but why no recipes in cheat mode? it works for other items
EDIT: just tried in recipe mode. still crashed

(Actually, im quite sure U and R still produce recepies even in cheat mode, but that will be our little secret)

As for the error, i have no idea.
