Details of the issue:

When I click the play button on the launcher, it loads up until step 2 and the crashes.

I also have the latest version of Java 8 installed and the latest development kit

Maybe newer JRE/JDK are installed but did you configure Curse/Vanilla launcher to use it?

Yes you were right, I hadn't configured Curse properly. Thanks

If anyone else is interested/in the same position. I had to go on the curse settings > minecraft > java version > 1.8.0.91 (or whatever version you have) and then it worked.
