Windows .exe "Could not find the main class. Program will exit" after 1.2.9 update.

Ever since the update, i have been unable to get past the launcher. When i press launch, i get the message "Could not find the main class. Program will exit". Tried re-installing everything (including java). The only error message i get in the console is:

"java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file"

GUISE I HAD SO MANY BEES!!

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks in advance. The only thing out of the ordinary in the console log is when it says "java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file", everything else is the same as what would usually turn up in the 1.2.8 launcher

Alternatively, is there anyway to download previous versions of the launcher?
