This is a challenge where you are given limited materials and you are supposed to survive in the nether for as long as possible.
How to Play
Give yourself 64 grass, a full set of stone tools, leather armor, 2 water buckets and a furnace. Give yourself the necessary materials to go to the nether and survive. This game is supposed to be played on HARDCORE mode, so have fun with that. Be aware that there are lots of things you will not be able to have because of being in the nether. Like cactus or sugar cane.
Mods
Use any mods you want but make sure you have PowerCrystal Core, Nether Ores, and Natura. Biomes a Plenry would not be a bad idea either!

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1753754-15xnatura/ <--Natura
I recommend using the 152 pack that already includes natura and powercrystal core and then add nether ores.
Have fun,
Tips
find a bloodwood tree.
don't mine ores around pigmen
collect all the mushrooms and make stew for food.
don't die
Remember that with twilight forest and natura, there are additional dimensions you can travel too to farm and mine. Though living in the the other dimensions permanently is not in the spirit of the challenge and I would Not Recommend it
*If you have any recommendations or opinions, please reply to this thread. Also if you play the challenge reply with your final score and say how far you made it.
Have Fun

Why would you bring lava buckets? They're useless in the nether. You could put them in a tank (if you could make a tank, which I don't think you can) but that's two buckets of water for the rest of your MC existence.

This challenge seems silly.

Going to the Twilight Forest defeats any sense of challenge Imo. It's so dense in resources that it breaks everything in your suggestion. The challenge may be better if you have a time limit in the Overworld, like 20-30 minutes and then never return. From there see how long you can survive.

In 10 minutes you can have a flint and steel, iron tools, and in your way to a diamond pick. Then there would be a challenge. I'd also suggest solid objectives since the nether is so rich now that survival there is difficult but highly possible.

There are several trees in the nether. I believe you can grow plants with spring water from BoP (haven't tested this), and with nether ores you're able to make almost any machine.

I believe you can create a water tank from RailCraft that accumulates water slowly.

In 1.5.2 you can bucket liquid redstone and glowstone. I'd dump them out and later use redstone to quench lava for obsidian farming.

The problem isn't getting obsidian, it's getting water.

The thing is, without water you can't use, for example, steam engines or boilers. You can't make plants grow (seeds and stuff, not the nether plants).
I don't think that with the items provided you would be able to play very far. The only reason it's even remotely possible is Natura.

I believe you can create a water tank from RailCraft that accumulates water slowly.
Even if you do have infinite water, you can't actually place it in the world. Although I suppose you could use it for engines and stuff with pipes.. huh
I should test this

You can use an AA for water, but it would work much slower. Also, with MFR farms you don't need water to plant and harvest crops. Basically, at worst you're looking at having to build a lot more AAs than you normally would to make up for the efficiency loss.

Edit: Also, with MFR you can place milk buckets in the world. Has anyone tried to see if that works in the nether and if it solidifies lava?

Does placing water source blocks work in the nether? If so, that's motivation to attempt to rush for a massfab.

I'm about 90 percent sure that it doesn't, but I havn't tested that since 1.7 (vanilla) when it did work.
They changed how it worked to prevent people from using ice to get water in the nether.

Hmm, interesting... I thought that they had hardcoded water to not work upon creation.
Mojang seem to take unnecessarily roundabout routes to reach their goals.

i think source blocks placement allowed in nether because of adventure maps possibilities.
