Couple of things:

With your OS and RAM available, you'll be lucky to get FTB Lite 2 working properly (it's the only FTB pack that will work with 32-bit operating systems and Java).

To fix the connection error, apparently changing Java's security to "Medium" fixes the error.

That fixed my problem, here is how to change java security
