Hello youse.
Some of you may remember me, many probably won't.I was kinda active on this forum for a little while, but then stopped, partly due to getting slightly burned out on FTB and minecraft in general. However one of the main reasons I got burnt out was a lack of direction. I would get a nice set up and then get bored and stop. The reason I am here is to ask for ideas of what to do as I feel like giving it a go again. I will probably be using the infinity pack, so any ideas would be appreciated!

Use your imagination, build places and contraptions. Sorry if that sounds rude, but theres literally no other reason to play.

Set aside time to build things. Don't just rush the tech/magic trees to get to the end. You will not find entertainment for long this way.
Build a nice little hovel to start with. Set up some starter tech, and build some cool looking housing for it. Build a bit of eyecandy around your house. Set up a bit more tech. Disguise the ugly tech in a cool looking cosmetic shell. Build a factory around it. Connect it with the countryside with roads etc. Make a lake to improve the view from your house.....

Keep adding pauses where you build stuff. Don't rush or take corners to get to most powerful stuff. Personally I can spend days/weeks on building something that serves no purpose at all. But the best part is building housings for tech. In the end this will greatly extend the lifetime of your game. This is what have kept me interested in the same world for nearly a year now: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...uide-collection-etc.42664/page-20#post-790941

Thanks for the advice rhn . In reply to epidemia78, fair enough, it's just I generally rush the tech tree, get everything in a few hours then lose interest.

Whats the point of crafting all that stuff if not to use it? I just dont understand this mindset. I dont make anything unless I already know what I want to do with it. Minecraft is less a game that you win and more a toy to exercise your creativity.

For me, the game is a tedious boring grind and only gets interesting past so called endgame.

I just get to a stage where I have 'completed' my goals, get a good setup. I have never really had the motivation to get past there. I can think of projects, but never have the skill or can be bothered to carry them out.

That is also somewhat a sign of poor modpack design IMO. If you simply pile a large amount of mods together without balancing them and taking measures against cross mod exploits, you end up with game progression being a joke. Sure you can with proper self restraint and by imposing limitations for your self play it as a sandbox game and pick and choose those things you want. But it is obvious that MANY people cannot/will not do this and rush through the game in far to short a time and get bored.

At the moment there isn't a whole lot of options IMO if you are into large "kitchen sink" packs, but also want them to be balanced and with a nice fluid progression. There have long been a attitude of "balance and tweaks was something you did to HQM and themed packs, NOT kitchen sink packs". TPPI is the last/only stable released pack that I am aware of that do this, but it is 1.6.4(but still worth playing because of its great quality IMO). A TPPI2 is in the works, but it is in beta atm because Gregtech(a huge part of the pack) is rather unfinished atm and therefore not included yet.

But there might be some hope on the horizon for the official FTB packs: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/ftb-infinity-hard-mode-behind-the-scenes-with-tfox83.117216/

For me... I needed a "challenge". Not necessarily hqm or something difficult. Just guidelines for progression so I couldn't rush. If you need something like that. I recommend the "refugee to regent" challenge. Gives guide lines for how to progress but not set in stone like hqm.
