Has anyone seen any? I'm playing along with DW20's LP S9, and his modpack.

I've got an Alveary and Industrial Apiaries on ground level outside my base, with about a million flowers that the bees have generated, and a few Forestry tree species, with several butterflies, and they've been going on for several real-time days. I get honey and pollen from Alveary and Apiaries, The trees get pollinated and fruit-bearers bear fruit.

But no Caterpillars, and no Cocoons. They do show up in JEI, but not in the trees - I've been watching on and off for a few (real-time) days now.

The bees and the butterflies seem happy enough. What am I missing?

Butterflies create cocoons when they reproduce, don't they?

the cocoons attach to the underside of trees, new butterflies hatch, fly around.

two days later you notice lag, then glance over at the general area and notice there's about ten thousand of the damn things flying around.

One chunk loader later, you're setting up a repeat command block with the command "/forestry butterfly kill"

That's what I was expecting, but not a cocoon, caterpillar, or pupa to be seen under any leaf block. There are indeed "new" butterflies, as evidenced by finding some with unknown genomes after I've caught, beealysed, and set free all the ones I could find the day before. So there should be cocoons, and every so often I should spot at least one...?

Haha! But I haven't got to that stage yet.

as far as I have ever seen, they form cocoons underneath the "branches" of trees they have pollinated.

There is a hard cap on butterflies these days, so you may have too many butterflies in the world. try killing them all, or capturing as many as you can, then check again in a couple minutes.

So, still no Cocoons, after having caught all my Butterflies (±60-ish), and had new ones appearing, and trees getting pollinated, and playing several hours a day. No Caterpillars either. I did, incidentally, set the Forestry Lepidoptera config to allow Cocoons, when I made the first post.

It's not really important, but I'd kinda like to see a game feature which is obviously available (JEI shows Cocoons and Caterpillars).

you'll only see catapillars if you breed your own butterflies. You'll need to put the captured butterflies into the analyis table (escorle?) and examine them, and you'll rarely get the potion that you need to cause butterfly breeding.

Ah, okay, thanks for that. Sounds like a bit of a mission, though?
