Coal in a witch's oven

Hey guys, I'm using direwolf20's modpack and I realised i could generate coal ore from cooking coal in a witch's oven. However when i tried to do it, it doesn't start up, is it an error or am I doing something wrong?

Are you sure it wasn't get coal by cooking coal ore?
Also stating which DW20 pack (MC version) and which pack version may help

I'm using version 1.7.0 for minecraft 1.7.1.0 and I'm following the recipe in the ftb website
