I've had this issue before. For some reason, certain items just do not melt fully in the Smeltery, it seems to have something to do with higher melting points (how long until it melts). Coal Dust for instance just WILL NOT melt, they reach a certain point and just sit there using up my lava fuel. How do I fix this?

Try using Pyrotheum?
I've never tried melting coal dust, but I've seen some people using Pyrotheum as Smeltery fuel, I think because it may smelt faster. It might *also* help overcome higher melting points, although I'm not sure.
If you don't have Pyrotheum in your pack, giving us a list of hot fluids that you DO have will allow us to point out the ones capable of being Smeltery fuel. :)

On a slightly unrelated note, you may want to spoiler that image due to size. :p

This was only a quick thread, I only plan on keeping it until problem is resolved

I wasn't aware you could put anything other than lava in it, I bet the pyrotheum would probably work as you suggested.

*edit* I'll find out about that later, before you answered, I just cheated the coal into liquid form via creative mode :p
