Hey guys. I'm running a DW20 1.6.4 server and we're having a problem getting chunk loaded spawners to spawn mobs when players aren't around. We've tried turtles and the autonomous activator, and they don't seem to be working. Does anyone have any other ways to fool the game into spawning mobs?

Think the only way is to use the MFR spawners. or maybe have a look at rotatycraft(I think it was) that adds a sort of interface to vanilla type spawners to turn them on and off etc.

Thanks for the info.

Rotalcraft isn't in the pack and I don't want to add anything to it so I can keep it "stock".

Does anyone else have any way to get around the vanilla limitation?

cursed earth can be used also to spawn any type of monster mob and should be use to supply the mob essence need to run mfr spawners

I just created a vanilla ender ender with grinders in the pit, (using morph+bat made it much easier) its done using Red alloy wire and a timer set to 2 seconds that will trigger all the levels at once (I could change this up to use string like the normal one, but I'm too lazy).

This at max speed, can get you an awful lot of mob essence for your spawner which, if your grinding what you spawn will recycle the essence only making it cost 50mb per mob spawned. I've spawned tonnes of mobs and only used about 70 buckets.

Sweet!

I ended up grabbing a spider spawner with a gravity gun and putting it in my base, then muffling the sound. As many people as walk around my base, it's almost always active.

If need be, I can just grab another spawner and stack it. Kinda lame that we don't have the soul shards mod. It was such an integral part of my "Lazy Gamer" strategy. :p

With the new Soulshards it works like vanilla, so it wouldn't make a difference. Thats not a bad idea actually, I'd never thought of it, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to set up with all the mods (mines not even 100% yet, I left it at 12 spawning platforms) and just AFK it when I need to.

Another method is you can still use slimes if you find a way to kill em (Turtles, and have them drop down holes only big enough for each size so you'll need to scale the holes on different floors, or using the same concept, you can use spikes and holes, with grinders for when they are small.)

Build them in mystcraft dimensions. They don't have the nearby player requirement that the overworld does. At least they didn't in 1.5.x, I haven't done this in 1.6.x yet.

Just be careful. There is a reason for that limitation. If your spawn rate greatly exceeds your kill rate you'll crush your server eventually.

However if there is a player in the dimension outside the spawn radius(I forget what it is) the mobs will instantly despawn... So put the spawners in a dimension specifically for it which people rarely go to, it will need to be chunkloaded...
