When I change the memory settings in the 1.0.1 launcher it refuses to load the game... Anyone have a solution?

I have 18GB of memory, I can run MC with 12GB allocated to it with MC launcher or other launchers.

256/512 - default it runs fine
256/1024 - Works

1024/2048 - MC client will never start
1024/4096 - MC client never starts
1024/8000 - mc client never starts

Launcher will just close when I attempt to launch game:

I had the exact same problem. Reinstalling Java solved it (installed the x64 Bit Version of Java 1.7 update 9)

You'r running 32bit java, changing to 64bit have solved the problem for others if i remember correctly.
The funny part is, I had x64 Java already installed, only reinstalling did the job (maybe some Java Update got installed for 32Bit which then overruled the 64Bit one as it was newer)

I notice the 32bit java.. but its 64bit installed on my computer. I notice every time java updates, I lose the ability to set the memory, but once I manually re-install 64bit java despite its objections it solves that issue, but not other lock ups.

Now that you noticed that and brought it to my attention... Windows should not be looking at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6 for its java, it's installed on a different drive. I think its time to fubar windows and start over, w/o java 32bit installed at all?

Thanks for the extra eyes![DOUBLEPOST=1352924749][/DOUBLEPOST]I notice the 32bit java.. but its 64bit installed on my computer. For some reason, Jason, Java defaults to 32-bit (silly, but apparently true). The best thing you can try in this scenario is to remove the 32-bit Java altogether and try with just 64-bit Java installed. Let us know your results!

Edit: Also, no reason to reinstall Windows or anything drastic. Just try removing the Java 32-bit software first. =)

Java, FTB and minecraft all works in mysterious ways, if it was up to me should all java applications/programs/thingies have been able to run on the 64 bit edition and then it could switch internaly to 32bit instead.
Then we wouldn't need to constantly have two nearly identical yet so wastly different java versions installed on the computer.

Anyways, glad it solved your problems, happy to help :)

If it were up to me 32-bit would cease to exist. $200 laptops have 4GB of RAM nowadays, it's just silly to keep supporting incredibly old architecture.

What's sad is the only 32bit java that's ever been installed was installed when I first installed windows, and it should have been removed when I installed 64bit(?) at least one would think. So it seems I have a 32bit installer auto updating and fubaring the 64bit install that I want it to use. I'll have to look into remedying that, I think I can check the java module in control panel and force it to ignore the 32bit installation entirely (?)

Thanks

to prevent installing java automatic u should use a browser for 64x so the browser will install automatic the newest 64x instead 32x ...

if u are a firefox user use waterfox :D (nah not a joke (using that self and killed finaly my 32x install of java :p when u make a java scan when u use waterfox it says java is installed and up to date :D (when i do it on firefox i get a message to install 32x java ... )).. its a firefox for 64x ) or use IE 64x ... (standart instalation of win vista/7/8 has both inside 32 and 64)
