Can't load any modpacks past 1.6.4

Hey guys, I'm not sure why because I have a decent computer (I think I'm not very experienced) but I can only load modpacks that are before 1.7.10. For example, I can load agrarian skies 1.6.4 very quickly (around a minute) but when I try to load any modpack past that (for example DW20 1.7/1.10) or now sky factory 3, the new loading screen that replaces the Mojang logo (with the bars) lags my computer out greatly and it both loads slowly and doesnt complete loading (crashes). My memory usage according to task manager when loading is around 1,000,000 K but when it tries to load Reliquia/RFTools it goes up to around triple that? Fianlly after it crashes my computer greatly lags for around 5 minutes. I've got plenty of space available on my computer and I've allocated the recommended RAM (4GB) and also tried increasing that to its max with no avail. My friend who definitely has a worse PC can load it though.. Please help.

First suggestion is to make sure to update to the latest version of Java.

Also putting up a crash log onto pastebin and posting link to it might help people diagnose the problem you are having.

It sounds like you have a PC with either a 32 bit Operating system OR 2GB or RAM as your symptoms both describe the behavior of a system that runs out of RAM. Also, the move from 1.6.x to 1.7.x saw the memory usage of most modpacks exceed the capabilities of 32Bit/2GB PCs.

Assuming you are running a relatively recent version of windows, Press the "windows" button and simply type in "Settings" and then go to "System" and then to "About" and it should bring up a screen showing your operating system version, quantity of RAM etc.

If you have at least 4GB of RAM AND a 64bit operating system then you need to check your Java version.
