Can't get things to run

Just installed Minecraft Java and FTB today, haven't really messed with any behind the scenes stuff in folders, etc, partly because I'm overall not tech savvy enough to figure all that out. Downloaded FTB Revelations and then University, had no problems there. Clicked Play on Revelations and waited for it to open. Nothing happened, after waiting about 15 minutes I tried clicking it again. Still nothing, this time after 20 minutes. Obligatory spam clicking then, still nothing. Did the same thing with Academy. I'm not even seeing any error messages to possibly troubleshoot, it's just not doing anything. The FTB application itself isn't unresponsive either, it'll still open pages and links when I click on buttons like the one that sent me here. Is there any way I could maybe do a force stop in order to try and get my installed modpacks to function, or do I need to do something else?
