Can't get any modpacks to launch

I can't get any mod pack to launch from the FTB launcher

I have played modded before but usually use the server launcher. I want to play direwolf with my daughter on a private server, so installed the FTB launcher but I couldn't launch direwolf20. I I tried installing a few different packs but those wouldn't launch either so I...

-updated java
-Uninstalled and reinstalled FTB launcher
-deleted mod pack and reinstalled
-deleted mod packs and uninstalled FTB launcher and reinstalled all
-tried launcher for server I most recently played on (dirtcraft playing FTB Infinity, worked without any problems)
-uninstalled dirtcraft launcher and deleted all associated files I could find (including appdata folders), uninstalled minecraft, uninstalled Java
--reinstalled java, and vanilla minecraft and checked vanilla would launch (it did)
--reinstalled FTB launcher
-installed multiple modpacks again

Still no success, so I'm here begging for advice

I found one thread with someone having a similar problem, but the solution from jikuja was "On the launcher go to options then click the force update button, then launch the modpack." which doesn't seem to exist on the current version...

I'm able to launch from the classic launcher

didn't have to update anything, just installed the classic launcher, found the modpack, logged in, and hit launch.

Still can't launch from the new launcher... but I can play and that's all I really care about...

EDIT : While I'm able to play locally, I'm unable to setup a server because the classic launcher doesn't have the version of the mod pack that server hosts seem to support... making this much less fun for my family
