Yeah, gregtech has its merits.

Especially making the mass fabricator much less OP. I can place some upgraded solars next to it and have all the UU matter I will ever need. The matter fabricator seems to solve this, my only gripe being that it requires so much iridium to get off the ground. If it required a bit less iridium I would be all for it.

We have a matter fab hooked up to a network of geo gens, nuclear reactor, and 2 ultimate hybrid solars. We're using the uu to make titanium ingots atm. We'd be nowhere near this stage if it wasn't for a dense ores age. However, when we do start with the ultimate/dw20 pack, we plan to disable dense ores and increase iridium ore generation. I think, by default, it is set to appear once in every five chunks...we might increase this to one in 3.

But we're having to mass quarry just to find enough rubies for chrome ingots. We've been playing for about 2 weeks (few hours day), and i only just made the gravichestplate yesterday. On tekkit, i would have been flying around with stacks of rm by the end of my first day. Why people would want mods to gift them items without the effort is beyond. Whiners can always go back to tekkit and ee2!

My only problem with gregtech is the expensive solar panels recipe. especially for new guys like me. after that the mod is pretty good if not too good. (heated machines is done by that mod right?)

No, those are from Advanced Machines. The GregTech added machines are the overpriced cobble generator (which takes up more space than the Igneous Extruder as well) and mimicries of the Railcraft and Redpower item management devices, as well as all the machines that require Iridium somewhere along the way to craft. It does add the Rockcutter, which is really nice, and the latest 1.4.5 version of GregTech makes Iridium gathering a bit more reasonable and adds some expensive but useful higher mid-tier machines for producing a variety of dusts and cells... which seem to have been given a bit more use than the 1.4.2 version.

But let me ask you. Without GregTech, how much do you normally rely on Solar Panels? Do you really think the higher price is unfair, or do you just have a hard time giving up the easy free energy? I'm not trying to accuse here, I really mean the question. I at one point realized I was doing the latter and changed my mind about GregTech. This combined with the changes in the latest update, the further progression smoothing and extra tier of machines, and my opinion now is very different from what it was at first.

...I do still think its highest tier of machinery is silly overkill though...
