My brother and I tried on both RPG Immersion and Magic World to connect to each other's LAN servers, sitting on the same couch, but when we opened them, the other could not see the LAN server in the multiplayer tab, and direct connection didn't work either. We installed the newest versions of each, and it still did not work.

Do you have antivirus or firewall software? They may be blocking the connection. Try allowing the launcher to connect in both programs or temporarily disabling them (yes, this is dangerous, but it's the only way to be sure that they're not the problem).

P.S. If you don't, get it.

I have the same sort of problem: my mom, brother, and I all go on a Yogcraft LAN world hosted by my mom. Several days ago, my brother's game crashed and he couldn't reconnect to the LAN world; he couldn't even see it.
Now, about 3 hours before I posted this, my family all ate dinner (I disconnected, my mom went into creative and kept the LAN world running) for roughly an hour and a half. When I got back, I couldn't see the LAN world either.
This sort of thing has happened before (on FTB, Minecraft, and Tekkit) and seemed to resolve itself, but we never figured out what we did that fixed it.
Any help??

Possibly, but I've never really looked into it. Theoretically, the IP's on the same network should still be able to see each other, regardless of IP status, assuming there's nothing blocking them.
