Can you still make an infinite oil loop?

Ah alright. I think i got it set up right, but im not 100% sure. Is there a youtube video out there some where with how to do this? I looked yesterday but couldn't specifically find this

Sounds like you have an opportunity to make a video!
 
Something to know about this is, it's very slow in the generation, it gives a net gain, but it's a long time before you see any major difference

If only we had real life oil fabricators, all our energy problems would be solved! Sucks to be you, enviroment!

Seriously though; how much MJ/t does an oil fabricator use (i.e. how long does it take to make 1 bucket of oil)?

I've had a bit of a rough day. This comment has made it just a little better. :)

Though to be fair, a LOT of things about the real world could be improved if they worked like they did in Minecraft...i.e. physics in general. :p
 
It takes 600kMJ to make oil/refine it(combustion engine makes 600kMJ per bucket of fuel)
In max heat 36 boiler, it makes about 710kMJ per bucket.
 
There's a simple way: turn on nei cheat mode, and create oil capsules.

Its equally legitimate.


It is not like this was not intended. Nor is it a swell plan. PowerCrystals did the math with Railcraft in mind. He's not like some other devs who aren't well plugged into the common mod ecosystems. So it's a bit less absurd than this.

The thing is, the net profit is so low that by the time you actually have substantial gains, someone with bee know how could actually be making obscene profit from nothing. I haven't done the math but I observed him saying he had, and I only observe the oil fabricator as being a power converter and storage medium.

Keep in mind that you can increase steam boiler efficiency up to 25 % by restricting the amount of fuel that gets to it. With biofuel and 36 HP you can practically achieve 124 % advertised efficiency by putting one bucket every 124 s, but for 36 LP it seems to max out at 120 % (one bucket per 240 s), so with fuel in 36 HP 120 % is realistic estimation. This changes it to 252 kMJ profit per fuel bucket, which can be niece. Using steam turbine you can up this even more.

What? I don't have the exact number, but I recall a full sized boiler burning about 1 bucket of fuel every 320 secs. Are you sure you aren't gimping your production?
 
You know, this is one exploit I hope they keep, because even though you're getting infinite power, its not exactly a lot, and it would be nice for people why don't want to spend hours on some fancy power setup. Its less broken than solar power at any rate.

One bucket of fuel burns for 300 s in 36 HP.

Gimping production is the point. Stem boiler produces steam when it is heat up, it doesn't matter if it has something to burn or not. In the highest range of temperatures boiler cools down 4 times faster than it heats up, so you let it to cool down for a while and then insert fuel which will bring it back to max temperature, without impact on steam output. Fuel consumption depends on temperature, with HP boilers cooling down and heating up is really slow, so fuel consumption during this heat-up microcycle will be almost the same as fuel consumption at max temperature. So you get this 25 % more energy from your fuel on cooling cycles.
 
The infinite oil loop thing isn't very powerful because you're using the majority of your power to run the oil fab. I tried that setup once, and while it did work the amount of energy you get out of it is really pathetic compared to something bee or solar-powered.

Is there even a true gain after you factor I the energy cost of refining the oil?
