I have an alienware m17x r4 laptop with quad i7 3740QM chips at 2.70ghz. I have 12 GB of ram and a NVIDIA gtx 680 gpu with 2gbs devoted gpu ram. My internet speed is 13ms ping, 160 Mbps download speed and upload speed of 18 Mbps. I want to host a server for me and four friends, the server will not be on 24/7 rather, when we want to play on it. Can I do it? I will be playing on the server on this machine whilst hosting from this machine.

I have actually already started the server, but one friend (who has a shocking laptop) tried to join (none of the others have yet) and it lagged us both out quite a bit, was that his machine or mine? When I'm on my own on the server everything is smooth, 128x sphax plus optifine running at 85fps but mobs lag a bit, they do the stuttered walk thing, but no other issues, is there something I'm not doing? I'd have thought my machine could handle it?

On a side note could someone explain to me what the live chart is on the java server application when its running? Memory usage never drops below 95% free (there is 6gb's devoted to the server) so I don't understand why the chart display was over one third to a half when two of us were on?

Thanks :)

Well you should be disabling that GUI from the server as it uses quite a bit of resources. Also any computer can host an FTB server (that can run java) thing is how well it will work. Your upload speed should be fine for the amount of people, but the only way to really tell how well it will run a server is to test it. Considering Windows has never been good at running high demand applications so try to turn off everything you possibility can and don't be playing on the computer and have your friend log in and tell you how it runs.
