Shneekeythelost, I would enjoy reading your guide since I am trying to learn the mod.

The only issue I have with AE2 is the need to find presses on servers.

I've no qualms on it if I'm playing on SSP however.

Like what Shneekey said, once you got all the 4 different presses (I usually find all of them within 5 meteors) and 1 piece of Charged Certs Quartz, you're good to go.

Sheneekey I really enjoyed that guide. Not only did it show the connections within the network, but it shows the ground work necessary to get started. +1

Well personally, I use enchanted strongboxes and jabba barrels for my pre-AE storage solutions. They are a lot cheaper than iron chests, and moveable. A row of seven chests sorted: plants, animal, misc, blocks, ingots, gems, mods. And of course an ender chest at the beginning for the dropping off of things and couple big chests on the end for overflow. Connect them all with Extra utilities sorting pipes and the chests are sorted according to what is already inside. Needs a bit of management, having to empty out and sort the overflow chests every so often but it definitely beats trying to craft an ME system without any organization.

Oh and the jabba barrels for holding things that would quickly fill up a chest like cobble and dirt. Another thing I do is suck ores out of the overflow and into whatever ore processor I am using and then back through the sorting system.

I did that once for my quarries Epidemia, used jabba barrels and enderio item conduits + ender chests to sort out my items. I actually like that method once I got it configured the way I wanted it. (I'm very anal) That method wasn't exactly cheap though, by time you craft all of those top end barrels with the upgrades, the conduits, advanced hoppers, etc. The one thing I really liked about it though was the void upgrade that automatically deleted any overflow... no worries about cobblestone ever again!

Yeah I hate the Jabba upgrade recipes so never use them. I always forget about them til the barrels become a hassle, but TE caches are another favorite. They cant be enchanted but a reinforced one holds 600,000 items (I think) which is plenty.

that's the Resonant one which holds 640000 , the Reinforced holds 160000

what's cool that those values can be changed in the config file & the Resonant Cache holds more than a fully maxed out Barrel , even more than a 64k drive from AE2 !

I never even thought to adjust mine but you are right. Only downside is they cant be locked. Still, l really like TE's storage options.

they can be locked by Shift Right Click in it with an empty hand then Right Click it with a Multimeter to know if it's locked or unlocked

AgSky2 introduced me to AE Stuff, which I now consider mandatory. It makes the inscriber far more reasonable to automate, and adds a machine for crystal growth, eliminating the ridiculous "throw your crystal in a puddle of muddy water" mechanic. Also, if you're on a server, you can copy a press for 1 iron block, making it perfectly 'legit', in my opinion, to trade iron blocks for presses in SSP. Of course, pointless worldgen is a pet peeve of mine, so YMMV.

Edit: added link.

I was under the impression that the iron block thing was a vanilla AE mechanic? Unless you mean a recipy in a crafting bench?
Because I thought you could always put the press in with a block to copy it?

You're correct, I phrased that poorly. My point was that since you can make a press with 1 iron block (I mentioned server because you would be unlikely to do it in SSP), it makes perfect sense, logically, to delete an iron block and spawn in a press. Which has nothing whatsoever to do with AE stuff.

Posting in a hurry leads to poor writing, it seems.

don't forget the AE1 Patter Encoder it's a life saver when it comes to rabbit-hole recipes like Solar Flux mod

Regrowth introduced me to the Binnie Core compartment chests, maybe you'd like them:
