Can items dissapear or despawn in pipes?

Items are coming from a chest, pulled out by a filter and go through a pneumatic tube and into a machine. If the machine fills up the items go backwards to the filter and try again, and sometimes the pipe looks full of items trying to get in. Can they despawn in a pipe after awhile or does going into the filter help prevent that?

No they won't despawn in pipes or tubes. The redpower filters and such have a internal buffer, so sometimes the items seem to disappear, but as soon as there is a valid inventory for them to go into, the filter will spit them out...
