Alright guys. I started my first FTB world two weeks ago and now I think I have some enough resources to build my prime lab/factory. Because I am new to FTB and I dont know much about it I decided to ask from here. So I want modern laboratory or factory and Im using sphax purepdcraft 128x texture so can anyone help me using materials that make my base look like modern. Also you can suggest something what can I build there. Im starting to plan my building so every tip is needed and all the help is very nice. Ok, I have still couple of things that need to be there:
  1. It could have many rooms and floors. All will be included. Like item sorting rooms, storage room, electric control room, boss room and computer rooms for computercraft computers and stuff like that.
  2. Bedroom is not needed cause I decided to build my "vacation house" in differend location.
  3. Some rooms may be bigger than others cause I decided big furnace rooms.
But the main thing what I need to know is some modern materials so if someone could be very nice and help me :)

Before starting a large build I'd do whatever it takes to get a filler and a Builder's Wand. Wand of Equal trade is nice too, particularly for trying out the same design with different materials.

Soartex is absolutely fantastic. Iron blocks look great in that pack (I loved how iron jacketed wires would look in Ultimate, they'd look like air ducts).

Tinkers' Construct black stained glass looks pretty awesome for modern windows. Connected texture, so no frames in the middle, and very slight shading. Not completely transparent (I would always delete the glass/glass pane connected textures with Sphax since that would turn windows basically invisible on any block but an edge block) but just as easy to see through as air.

I also really like Railcraft's bricks. Right now I'm in the middle of building the main machinery area in my base out of Paved Stone Bricks (actually MFR, but I decided on those last) for the floor, Quarried Brick for the walls, and Quarried Blocks for the roof/ceiling (I spawned on top of a Quarried Stone deposit and about 30 meters away from another, so inspiration struck). Looking pretty cool so far, especially with the Smoker blocks on top of my smeltery housing.

For lighting I'm using Lux Capacitors (uncraftable, you'll need an MPS Power Fist with that module and an energy storage module installed). They look very clean and modern, don't draw continuous power like IC2 Luminators, and don't cost me a thing to lay down (the energy needed is tiny, and my suit recharges right away). Just point and shoot at any block.

Railcraft Concrete is great for floors in engine/generator or ore processing rooms. Gives a very good solid/stark factory feel. And if you're using Gregtech and also insanely loaded with resources like one guy I saw, you can build out of Iridium blocks. Those looked pretty cool.

Thank you very much!! This is just what I needed to know. Im starting a flatland world to plan my building. Updating some pics here so you guys can know where am I going.

Bit of advice on any multli story base.

gaps between floors (aka subfloors) for piping/wiring will make everything look much cleaner and is worth planing for.

Yeah. There is little 1 block high floor between those floors. Pipes and electric cables will go from there. Im using covers to put pipes go "inside" the wall if they need to go up one floor.

I like construction foam for a modern looking material. It's custom built for hiding wires, too. Cooked quarried stone matches it almost 100%.

And if you use the Obscurator (was planning to make that a link to the FTBwiki page, but apparently I haven't made enough posts to be allowed that option yet) it does match it 100%! Not only that, you can make any side look like a separate block if you want. So you can have something like brick walls on the outside and wood walls on the inside.
