Is there any risk of pipes exploding if the pipe just goes from point A to point B with no loops?

If so, would a pipe hooked up to 4 fuel powered combustion engines and then piped to 4 quarries have any risk of exploding?

Conductive pipes will always explode if no power is being consumed (they fill up with 1000 MJ and then explode).

The Quarries will eventually hit bedrock, and will no longer consume power.

use redstone energy conduits, or check if there's a has work condition on the quarry and turn engines off when not needed.

put a cobblestone structure pipe next to it with a simple gate, it might be one of the options in the gate's interface. Have it emit a redstone signal when it has work, and feed that to the engines to turn them on/off.

alternatively, or if it doesn't have the condition, the same pipe gate on the chest you're feeding into and use a "has items in inventory" condition to turn on the engines, then you just need to prime the quarries with some power and their internal buffers should be enough to get through any small to moderate sized voids in the quarry. This of course takes into consideration you're auto sorting from that chest (IE enderchest etc)

but if you just used energy conduits, they won't explode, but the engines woudl burn through all their fuel once the quarry was done.

To add to what Larroke said, it doesn't have to be on a structure pipe. You can put the gate on the golden conductive pipe that is feeding the quarry.

I can't find any gates that have a "has work" option or anything similar.

Edit: Nevermind, it had to be connected to something for those options to show.

By the time you can make gates you definately should be able to make conduits and when you have those there is no reason whatsoever to mess about with conductive pipes.

Except the fact that for distances less than 5-6 blocks, conductive pipes have less energy loss at the moment ;)

Yeah. Too bad that if you forget to switch off an engine that pipe and most stuff connected to it is gone though.

Not really. Pipes blowing up do not destroy anything except themselves. Potentially gates and pipe wire attached to that section, but certainly not more.

(Also, if you are implementing a design where there's obviously a danger of energy overflow, the smart player take conduits even if he was concerned about the slightly higher energy loss.)

Last time I deliberately overloaded pipes they did leave a crater so then that was probably changed then.
