Brief freeze when opening any GUI

Details of the issue I get a hard freeze for about a second anytime I do ANYTHING that opens a UI. This includes hitting ESC, opening inventory, opening chat, interacting with machines, anything. This occurred very suddenly from one day to the next with no changes to my machine or the client I was using, not so much as a reboot between.

I've tried installing a fresh profile, tried different packs, single and multiplayer, raising memory allocation, uninstalling and reinstalling java, uninstalling and reinstalling twitch, updating video drivers, and finally doing a windows 10 OS reset. The reset improved the length of the freeze, but it does still happen.

I'm at wits end here and could use any recommendations you might have.

Edit: I loaded up a significantly older pack (Direwolf20 1.10) and it seems to be ok. The main current packs I've tested are DW20 1.12 and skyfactory 3 and it occurs in both cases.
