I'm scratching my head on this one - why would BoP be disabled by default on the client, but it seems to be present on the server? (I know how to enable, that's not the question)

look at the file type on the BoP on the server. It's .disabled. it's just included so you can enable it yourself

Ah, so it is...

Thank you! Do the clients have to match? Is there a way around telling my players to manually enable mods?

Also, while I understand things like NetherOres being disabled... why is BiomesOPlenty disabled?

From a lot of the stuff I read, they disabled it because there seems to be a pretty mixed response to BoP, as in it is not everyone's cup o' tea, so I guess disabling it by default makes it easier for everyone (since it's slightly easier to enable than to disable?)....

Ah, so not necessarily any broken stuff or imbalance.

Well. We liked what FTB Ultimate did with the biomes, so I'll go ahead and enable this. Sucks that users have to enable things themselves, though - the less they need to do the better lol.

What I find really goofy is that it's doubly disabled. First, you have to drag it over into the modpack yourself. Then, once it's in, you have to generate a world of BoP by selecting it (e.g. Normal, Large Biomes, Flat, BoP). Maybe that's because BoP is a multi-faceted mod in that it adds stuff *and* biomes, so if you don't generate a BoP world, you still have some BoP stuff (like bushes), but it still seems weird to me.

If you want it enabled on the server, remove the .disabled from the mod file (to change it back to .zip). Then to generate a BoP world, change the server properties world type to BIOMESOP....

BoP also allows vanilla biome generation alongside its own biomes in the config.

Could just ask him to make a config option to disable his biomes by default and leave in vanilla that way all servers have to do, is change one item from false to true in the config and all clients can connect to the server without issue because BoP by default would be enabled but the biomes in the config disabled.

Given that servers don't care about client configs in the case of BoP all the server has to do is enable what it wants.

That would make more sense, yes.

Thanks Mckma. For any others following-along-at-home, in your server.properties change level-type=DEFAULT to level-type=BIOMESOP
