I've finally gotten to the point where I am comfortable going into the configs & tweaking things, which I have to re-do every time I download a new pack update.

In the current DW20 pack (1.0.12 I think), I see that most of the BoP biomes have been disabled in the configs. I'm not that familiar with BoP, so I'd like to get some opinions on which biomes are too cool to leave out or too annoying to keep.

My only complaint about AM2 is the number of hostile mobs that don't seem to have any mob drops. I switch into peaceful if I'm concentrating on a big build just with the vanilla mobs. Is there any reason to keep hecates? Opinions on which mobs to keep & which to disable would also be welcome.

Too many great BoP biomes, and it's all up to your personal sense of aesthetics. My personal faves, though, have to be sacred springs, shield, cherry blossom grove, lavender fields, and mangrove. Oh, and coral reef as well. I think I have about 2/3 of the biomes enabled on my private modpack.

When they are all enabled, Biomes of Plenty adds almost 90 biomes to your world generation : 2 beaches, 78 overworld land, 3 overworld ocean biomes, and 5 nether biomes as well as including the 8 from Vanilla.

If you're willing to put in a bit of time to make your own preferences shortlist, I found the best way to do that is to change the configs section of BoP so that the area covered by each biome is fairly small and has none to little wasted ocean area and to do a creative fly by.

You can find the relevant config settings under
minecraft->config->biomesoplenty->terraingen

####################
# biomes o' plenty world type settings
####################

"biomes o' plenty world type settings" {
# Default World Type has 4. Large Biomes World Type has 6.
I:"Biome Size"=4

# In Vanilla it is set to 32
I:"Distance between villages"=32

# In Vanilla it is set to 10. Takes values from 0 to 100.
I:"Landmass Percentage"=25
}

If you change :

I:"Biome Size"=4 to I:"Biome Size"=2
and I:"Landmass Percentage"=25 to I:"Landmass Percentage"=80 or I:"Landmass Percentage"=100

it will give you small biomes, with little to no oceans and you can sample the variety really quickly.

Take note of the few biomes that really appeal to you and only include those in your world generation.
You get variety but you don't lose regular access to vanilla deserts and jungles.

As Synful said above, it's really a matter of personal taste, I've got a preference for cool green, lightly overgrown flat biomes, whereas servermates prefer the lurid oranges, crags and mountains or just trolly swamp areas, ick :D.

Good luck :)

AM2 mobs are useful mostly as summons. Except for Mages, which add needed conflict and a possible way to get some things, and Dryads, which are needed for something special. Nature likes them. Be careful not to offend Nature by killing too many of them in quick succession(hint: five).

Mob configs have finally been added to Ars2 but they aren't really working properly as of yet. I ended up just dropping the mod myself, it's just not my style. Once the configs work properly you can really tune down the mob spawning and hopefully Mithion will leave the option to completely disable mobs. Getting swarmed by hecates in dimensions they shouldn't spawn in is a pet peeve of mine.

BoP has tons of biomes so I suggest digging into those configs and setting them as ou see fit. I'm big on green biomes but the BoP mobs like jungle spiders keep me out of them. I really don't like spiders IRL and the tiny hit boxes they have make the game not fun for me. Again, BoP is adding configs for the mobs soon so look for that. I also disable most of the dead looking biomes. It's a waste of terrain generation for me since I never use them.
