What is the bug? When producing 1 block of charcoal(fuel) from 9 charcoal:

Crafting this in a regular crafting table has mods conflicting with the result, but chisel is the mod that overrides other results as the recipe is the same on multiple mods.

I wanted to produce the 1 block of charcoal that yields the block of charcoal as fuel - listed in JEI this is "possible" in a regular crafting table - which is not the case - when done in a regular crafting table it yields the chisel / raw charcoal block.

This is only possible in Forestry - worktable.

Is it repeatable? Yes.

Known Fix Do not allow the recipe to be displayed as craftable in regular crafting tables as its only possible through the forestry worktable.

I'm probably being dumb here, but I thought the proper block of charcoal was crafted with 9 rather than 8, like the block of coal?

Hi there, thanks for your patients. This issue has now been fixed in 1.5.0. It's already available on the FTB Launcher and will shortly roll out on the Twitch Desktop App.
