Hey guys,
we are trying to setup a Server running the Direwolf20 Modpack (version 1.0.2) with FTB (1.4.4) and MC (1.7.10) on a vServer running Ubuntu Server 14.10.
We have 3 vProcessors (dunno exactly the specs since they are listed nowhere) and 4 GB of RAM.
We started the Server in a new Screen in the bash using the ServerStart.sh Script which comes with the standard FTB Server.
After launching the server the CPU usage of 1 core (monitored via htop) constantly goes up to (over?!) 100% and we have some massive block lag on the server. FPS is no problem and ping is superb but if you brake a block it reappears first and then gets mined after a sec or 2. (referring to this behavior as block lag)
Now, to reduce the cpu usage we tried to boil down the number of mods used to less then 50% of the original modpack. After altering the launchscript to use mor RAM we got the average cpu usage down to about ~10% in idle (FTB running but without players joined) and to 100 % when a player is connected but the block lag got even worse. Since the RAM seems to be fine (2 GB seems to be enough)
So our questions:
How are you trouble shooting this problems? is there a list of Performance Hungry mods?
If anyone of you is running a Direwolf20 Server or any other FTB Server on a vServer with ~equivalent specs as ours? How do you start your servers (java flags, openjdk oder oracle java?)
Do you use mod managers or do you just manually start the server via the sh script?
Do you run ubuntu or what OS do you use?
Is it even possible to run a FTB Server on a vServer with our specs?
Are there any good tutorial on running a FTB Server on a ubuntu Server? (I only found Tutorials for vanilla servers or bukkit).
We only want to use the Server with about 3-4 Players at a time (only friends) (if that helps...)
Is there any more information needed?
