I've recently got a Tier 5 Blaze Shard and I made placed it in an enclosed area and started killing them. I've noticed that none of them drop any XP. I've replaced the cage and everything and they still don't drop any. Could the fact that the spawner is in the overworld affect this? And why is this happening?

You have to kill them yourself, with a turtle, or with a few other methods to produce XP.

Drowning or fall damage or any other indirect method like that simply won't drop XP.

I tried killing them with 1 turtle, a sword of the zephr or a normal stone sword and none of them worked.

Wellp, my exp farm is a T5 pigman spawner, so it's not the fact that it's a spawner.

That's odd killing them manually should give you the xp.
You dont have anything near that suck up the xp. like an enchanting turtle being on?

Souls shard blaze spawner not dropping experience is a bug already known by the devs. I'm assuming you are using the recommended build of the packs , in the latest versions , it works fine ;)

Just setup a T5 blaze spawner in the overworld and belted them with my chainsaw. Got XP as normal. MindCrack 8.2.0 for MineCraft 1.4.7.

So which methods of automatically killing mobs do drop XP? I want to build myself an auto-enchanting factory, but I'm not sure how to power it.

So which methods of automatically killing mobs do drop XP? I want to build myself an auto-enchanting factory, but I'm not sure how to power it.

The three that I am aware of are:
  1. Kill them yourself
  2. Have a turtle kill them
  3. Use a golem
Any others?

For an automated enchanting factory your best bet is the turtle with a enchanting table attached. You can have it pull books from a chest and enchant them automatically. Direwolf20 did a couple episodes on this.
