Hey I was just thinking would it be a good idea if there was just say a modpack with just a few basic core mods like CoFH and Forge etc. Itd be a good for people so they good then have theyre own custom packs?

?...The whole point of a custom modpack is too customize it to what you want.
But fair idea, though would there be much use for it?

Yeah I don't see much point in it unless you could somehow "preload" it to automatically configure stuff like oregen, forge microblock registrations etc. depending on which mods you add. But would be pretty hard to make something "all-round" with all the different combinations of mods that are out there.

well using the add mod function you then customise it to how you want it. Well people who didnt like the selection of mods on FTBLite2 and have a weaker computer so they cant run the DW20 pack for example it would open up many options for more tailored modpacks. This can be done with existing packs but whenever they update you have to do it all again. With this the player would be responsible for updating the mods and all tech support like the Unstable pack.

Problem is just that the modpack would be nothing more than "a help downloading a couple mods". All the configuration that really makes up the "core" of a modpack you would still have to do your self as it would be reliant on which mods you add.

I would imagine what he wants is a pack like monster (loads of configured mods in the config folder) but with an empty mods folder.

Whether its easy to setup / worth is a 2nd q?

I am sorry for saying this, but...
THAT IS WHAT ALLINAV IS FOR!!1!1111one!

Now, I actually really like this idea and think it would help some of the "technically impaired" (thiugh it is simple to figure out hiw to do this on your own)

this was actually once discussed in one of slowpoke's steams, about providing a very basic modpack for the latest minecraft versions with only the real basic things in there
personally I like the idea, as it'd be a good way for people to start out their own custom modpacks and will help those a bit who're just starting out with modpacks

BUT, as mentioned, the biggest work in a modpack is in the configurations nowadays and not just dragging and dropping a mod.
you'll spend most of your time configuring the configurations of the mods to fit your taste

I always try to keep the configurations provided with the mod, but sometimes I just have to enable/disable/change certain configurations...
