looking for a good size for a passive cooled reactor that can be converted to a active cooled reactor later on and a good size for a turbine to use the steam from the reactor so i can start planning my room layouts

I'm happy with a 7x7x3 reactor with a ring of 8 fuel cell core, with cryothium as a coolant. This is just big enough to run 1 max size turbine when converted to steam. For the turbine, you need 80 blades to use the full 2000 mb/t steam, while the # of coil blocks will vary by material used. A ludicrite coil will produce the most power with the fewest blocks (32 blocks for 2000 mb/t steam). I go with a 7x7x16 turbine (can be built vertical or horizonal).

I am currently just using this:

Use something like Glass or Graphite in the corners(cheap materials to just fill out the space).
It is small but can easily power 2 turbines @1800RPM with 4 Enderium coils, 70 blades using 1732mB/t steam each and stay at a modest temperature. Turbine size can vary but I prefer 17x7x7.

It is a bit tricky to build with ender and cryotheum next to each other, but it is doable if you build it layer by layer(costs a bit more ender this way).

You can easily make something a lot bigger that is more efficient. But you most likely wont need it with either MFR laser drills or Quarries. Better to compromise and save some space IMO. And you also don't need huge reactors to power turbines.

With Big Reactors increasing size is fairly easy. Just keep the fuel rods clumped together in the center in a square and surround them with 3 blocks of gelid cryotheum (flowing works just fine). The more open space you include between that and the walls, the more efficiency you get. The above design is one of the larger and most efficient designs I know of. You can keep adding height if you need more power.
