Your design however makes less power, but I did some simple calculations and your design is giving more RF per mB of fuel.

That design pumps out 80615 RF/t at 92 mb/t fuel equateing to 876.24 RF per mb.

Your design pumps out 61418 RF/t at 41 mb/t fuel equateing to 1498.02 RF per mb.

If your consumption never goes over 60K RF/t then you are saving fuel.

As for blocks that let you seal in the fluid, standard glass doesn't seem to impede the reactors formation, you could try that.

Edit: Did a few tests with a dingey little reactor in creative and It appears that flowing cryotheum must be counted as a full source block by the reactor. So you may not need to block in the coolant, it seems that doing so might make it less efficient.

this is the big reactor im working on atm

http://br.sidoh.org/#reactor-design...12O4CXCXCX4C12O4C5X4C16O5C20O5C20O5C20O5C160O

my question is do i need to fill all of the blank spaces with something or just the spaces to hold the gelid cryotheum in? my next question is what should I use to hold the gelid cryotheum in/ the blank spaces. thank you in advance!
Since you seem far more concerned with fuel efficiency than material (or footprint) costs, I'd strongly consider moving to turbines. This little reactor can easily provide steam for 6 turbines, each providing > 24k RF/t, at roughly 51% of your fuel costs. If your consumption remains under 69k RF/t, you only need 3 turbines, but should your need increase, you can simply add more turbines.
Note that my example is probably not as efficient as it might be, it's just one I used back in 1.6.4 (haven't gotten to nearly that level of power use in a 1.7x world as yet). I'd recommend looking at @Skyqula 's thread here for a detailed look at reactor designs.

fwiw, I found no real difference in efficiency after 3 blank rows instead of 6. But you're right, the empty space improves efficiency.

You can leave those corners empty but I usually fill them with glass. That might also make it a bit easier to control your cryotheum and make it look nicer.

I use an almost identical design to this with actively-cooled reactors btw (turbines).

If you place coolants with a Buildcraft Builder then the source blocks wont flow, that way you dont need to place annything to hold it in place. Otherwise, normal glass is valid just like graphite blocks or annything on this list.
