So I've been playing around with a new (to me) mod called Better Storage. It introduces a few new things, like lockable chests, enchantments for keys to lockpick said locked chests, a vertical double chest called a locker, a (to me, because I rarely upgrade the Forestry backpacks) slightly OP backpack, and.....Storage Crates. Essentially you can build these up as much as you want, in a multiblock storage feature. The catch is that you get a random snapshot of what is in there. By design, you can't see everything you stick in there, even if you have waaaay more stuff than what you see in the Storage Crate multiblock. And there's even a handy little meter GUI that shows how much room is left in the Crate multiblock.

"Fuck This!" I hear you some of you screaming. "Just use AE! It's better!"

I agree.

It is fully functional with Storage Buses. Meaning that you can get tons of storage space accessible anywhere in your network, at the cost of only wood and (lots of) space, so you can save your precious quartz for other projects.

Just something I discovered, thought I would share.

Point, set, and match. Well played, good sir.

This can easily obviate a Disk Drive and storage disk, at least to start off with. Granted, you will probably eventually want one, but it puts off that necessity and makes it possible to have an AE storage system as soon as you have stable power.

I agree. Storage Disks would be a lot better for actual sorting, but for early, raw storage this is great.

I find that I don't do any actual sorting once items are in AE. The beauty of it is that I don't have to care what disk/chest/barrel the items are stored in. With the interface I can text search, find them instantly and retrieve/craft as many as I want, regardless of where they are stored.

I'd really like to be good at AE and know how to use that disk block thing with the green lights on it.

I like better Storage and its crates better though. Maybe it's because I like mods that use a lot of space and force me to not do everything in my 1 room base next to my bed. Seriously, half of the time I spend in FTB is either mining or in a tiny room with my bed and a CC computer, trying to figure out how to use the computers to message my friend on the server.
