I was thinking boilers going into steam consumers, and I would power the boiler with fuel from refineries that are powered by a UHSP (Ultimate hybrid solar panel) Any ideas? I need it to power my mass fabricator at insane rates for more UHSPs

would a reactor be better?

While Nuclear Reactors are nice and can generate a load of EU, to have a hybrid solar panel that basically always runs, especially if put in an eternal day mystcraft age, would generate a load of EU without the cost of materials over and over. I'd go with Solar power for IC2 anyday.

I understand that however I need something to power my mass fabricator to get MORE UHSP, so should I use a reactor to do that or a bunch of boilers that run off of fuel, I've got loads of the stuff

Ohhhhhhhhhh... My apologies. I read that wrong. And if you have loads of the stuff then by all means go with a boiler but in this case a nuclear reactor would probably be easier. But if you have a lot, then use the boilers.

Boilers are extremely easy if paired with converters. As for fuel I'd suggest charcoal or biofuel(Squid power is easiest).

with squid power to power a 36 HP how many squid do I need to power a 36HP and how many of the ranchers from mfr do I need? and how many of the mfr bioreactors do I need?

One squid can be milked by 40 something ranchers. Each rancher feeds 4 bioreactors. Each bioreactor powers 2 boilers when they're at max temp with a slight excess produced.

Each squid is worth something like 50k MJ/t or... 121.5k EU/t(Rough guesstimations; not at all measured).

E: My apologies. You can get 85 ranchers to milk one squid. It's closer to 100k MJ/t and 143k EU/t. I measured that time too.

That's odd, how are you getting a conversion of 100kMJ/t to 143k EU/t? Shouldn't the ratio be 2:5 with PowerConverters?

Ok so if I were to use 4 bioreactors from the start to when they heatup it would be alright to power a 36HP boiler correct? I know I'd get excess but I have a plan for that

I got 4 bioreactors powered by 6 ranchers on a squid powering a 36HP boiler, however I have the liquiducts feeding into 2 steam consumers and the 36HP can't keep up with it, is that normal? I thought 36HP's produced a TON of steam

are boilers not as powerful as people say they are? I've heard great things about boilers especially 36 HP ones but it isn't even producing that much EU...

Steam consumers will accept up to 1000mb/t of steam. 36HP boilers produce 720 mb/t.

Ah, that explains it. I guess boilers ARE a really cheap method of generating tons of power I suppose... even if your not using squid power. How do tree farm boilers work, do you use the saplings and make it into ethanol or do you use the wood and just burn it?

Typically, you use the saplings in the creation of ethanol (or BioFuel, if you've got MFR available, which is a LOT easier), and turn the wood into charcoal before feeding it into a boiler. Just note that boilers eat thru charcoal pretty quick when they're starting up. Also, if you want to push your power even further and get a 3rd fuel source up and running, you could use coke ovens to make the charcoal, and use the resulting creosote to power a liquid boiler or two.

Either/both. A lot of people will run solid fuel boilers off charcoal while also running liquid fuel off ethanol. Generally i think you can run more liquid boilers than solid ones from the same size tree farm, but i haven't done tree farms for power in months so my math may be off.

I see, other question I have is are ranchers resource intensive? as in FPS or in server resources?

It's 1:2.43 and uh just not paying attention rofl. 243k EU/t.[DOUBLEPOST=1380855539][/DOUBLEPOST]

Not that I've noticed.

if youre willing to put GT in, you don't have to fiddle with IDs, and its relatively easy to go into the configs and neuter most of the insanity. (I like ultimate GT. do not like unhinged raw GT. change a few configs and you get the good ole' fun GT back)
point is, fusion reactor. large resource cost, large infrastructure needed to fuel it, but it produces insane amounts of EU. forever.

on the subject of boilers, how larger of an unfertilized MFR treefarm (what size upgrade) do I need to run a 36HP boiler?
I have a tin upgrade (r=4) currently in use, have a large wood stockpile from fertilizer.
