I've been thinking about giving Reactorcraft or Rotarycraft a try. But i'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I want a power system that's really good and possibly doesn't require like a crap ton of resources. In short really what do you guys think the best power source is for FTB Monster?

Reactor craft can give you 5M+ rf/tick but it's expensive

Rotary craft can give you just under 12k rf/tick with it's best engine maximising the rotational dynamo

XU generator get just over 40k rf/tick but require nether star

Thermal Expansion with an Ender IO Multi-RF thingy (Haven't dived into EnderIO yet!) getting power from a tree farm which cooks its own wood into charcoal.
^^That's why I did; and I'm a bat, so listen to me...

EDIT: Also; Welcomes to Da Forums!

Lava is for beginning, big reactors are for the middle/end, and when you can you can switch to or add Rotary Craft Gas Turbine when you need 10+kRF or Reactor Craft when you need GWatts.
Rotary craft requires infrastructure that is not easier if you start with Rotary Craft alone, I think. At least it was rather challenging in very begging of Horizon pack.

Mainly; for the lava method, I'd start with a basic IC2 Geo-Generator connected to a Batbox; leave the other mods alone for now!
Quick Tip: IC2 is really the most easiest mod to start out with, but isn't the best for ore doubling and such later on.

Big Reactors or ReactorCraft. RotaryCraft will work for power until you get one of the other two. Just be ready to do math.

I think for anyone posting the original inquiry, ReactorCraft fusion is totally out the question sir :p

Even ReactorCraft fission is probably a no go. You can get absurd power, but he or she would spend days alone getting it set up.

From what I hear, BigReactors is probably a good start for @firstwaswhen.
HEY!
WHAT ABOUT "MEDIUM REACTORS"!

The question is this, then:

a reactor that can produce 5 million RF/t will fill a resonant energy cell in about a second. How does one store that much energy sensibly?

I tried a few things, like EnderIO capacitor banks (stacked the size of a decent-size hut-of-shame)

Alternatively, if you wanna install ElectriCraft, the largest battery stores a massive amount of power, some 280TW. This is....a stupid amount of RF. 48 billion I think? I forget the exact conversion rate.

Edit: My capacitor-bank experiment was a bit of a failure. I was able to fill a decent mountain of them in just a minute or two with a regular fission reactor (940MW). And I swear they hurt my cpu performance more than ReactorCraft itself, which is considered by many to be a bit of a hog.

If you produce 5Mil /tick, do you really need more then a few resonant of buffer? Send it directly in machines :3

And rotary craft's borer use for about 12k rf/tick by itself + a few more for the transport, then the ME, then get an extractor setup for each ores so you can get at 1mil used per tick easly in there for one operation per tick :)

Thanks was thinking about BigReactors. But exactly whats the difference between BigReactors and ReactorCraft? and also if you suggest BigReactors what should I do to get started? Sorry i'm at school and enjoy plotting things out before i go home and work on it lol.

I don't know much at all about BigReactors, but its the more popular of the two from what I can tell, and it seems to be much easier to get into.

The first drawback for a beginner and ReactorCraft is that it needs you to learn RotaryCraft in some detail before you even touch it.
Past that, you need to add a decent amount of RotaryCraft and ReactorCraft infrastructure to get started. The mod strives for realism too, so there are several steps before you can start creating power.

And then once you are creating power, its a bit tricky to transform that power into RF; specifically, the converter block (rotational Dynamo) only outputs around 12k RF/tick, but you're generating on an order of 160k RF/tick for a small reactor, so you'll need to split that power up 14ish times before converting...

If you don't chunkload your reactor and its water source, its easy to incur a meltdown. Dealing with the waste can be a pain.

And after all of that, if you're not careful with the steam flying around (condensing all of it), it can really hurt your CPU performance.

Basically I gather BigReactors was just made with RF and regular end-users more strongly in mind :)

I got some success with an harvester (MFR) gathering a field watered by sprinklers (openblock). You then convert the flowers into dye and mix them if possible. With that and the seeds, you can run a bioreactor (MFR) at full capacity. Producing renewably enough biofuel for 5 dynamos (400RF/t). It's not that great at all, but it cause multiple interesting side effects :

A) You can devote a corner of the harvester for different crops. You get your source of cotton, sugar cane, wheat (use ic2 crops), pumpkins, melons, etc. for the same effort.
B) You'll eventualy get carrots, potatoes and other rare drops from grass.
C) You now mass produce essence seeds from magic crops.

So as an early source of power, it's pretty interesing.

I've just done a Big Reactor, it is extremely powerful and can be automated with a Magical Crops farm by uranium, here; this is absolutely great and shows you how to automate completely your big reactor: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/magic-crops-big-reactor-lots-of-power-pic-heavy.44407/
:D
No offence ReactorCraft, haven't delved into you yet.

For pure, utter output of massive power, you can't really beat ReactorCraft. Block for block, even a tiny fission reactor blows anything else out of the water.

But I guess the OP said "best source", not "most lucrative source", and ReactorCraft is just still a bit young with a few quibbles that are going to make it unappealing to some.
