hi everyone, havent played ftb in quite some time (since 1.4) and i wanna get into it again. but i dont have so much time on my hand to try every single one, so id like to know which would be the smartest for me to start a server on.

what i like/want:
- i like automating things
- many machines
- bees (MUST be included in the pack)
- electricity and high amount of storage
- exploring is fun (not twilight forrest. but the pack can include tf)

things i dont like/want/care for:
- gregtech
- stuff that takes forever to build (like gregtech)
- weapons (like rpgs, grenades etc)

so im basicly just gonna do all types of machines and build factories that automate things. and i want huge amounts of automatisation possibilities and machines.
i was thinking about mindcrack pack, but its pvp based and pvp will be turned off on my server. but mindcrack pack has lots of good things i really like aswell.
so im simply asking what the best pack for me would be

Direwolf20 is the second most balanced pack of all(first one being in test still and having GregTech), that has every component of modded minecraft( exploration, power systems, etc)
If you like even bigger choice, monster is the go, which has almost all things( beware, oh god BEWARE some MOBS)
Horizont is the third good choice, prett awesome aswell, but doesnt have bees.

To me it sounds like the Tech World v2 pack might suit you well, unless you don't want to play on MC 1.6.4 yet. It has lots of machines, bees, AE for storage and no GT. I don't know if there is any exploring in it that interests you though, it does have BoP and Mystcraft, but no extra dungeons of any kind afaik. So in that regard it might not be what you're looking for.

I've been trying to get back into FTB as well, so I've been comparing packs recently and I think I might go with Tech World as it looks pretty good to me. Magic mods are no must have for me and to me Monster feels too beta atm. The new DW20 pack looks pretty good as well (I've seen people call it the best out of the 1.6.4 ones), but for some reason I always miss some things in his packs (I kinda wanna try Rotary craft, which isn't in the DW20 pack afaik).

TPPI will be the best pack, ofcourse after Ultimate, but Monster has rotarycraft if you wanna give it a shot. Also you can always ad/mix and match mods to your choices. One of the packs I play currently has 126 mods and was built from Monster by removing nonsense, OP and completely out of the theme mods.

He specifically said no gt and tppi has gt. Id say add bees to horizons and you have a great pack for your needs

But GregTech has all of the nerfs disabled, so it won't actually affect your game unless you choose to play with GregTech.

I second TPPI. It is the spiritual successor to Ultimate. One thing I feel it's missing that you'd like is Rotarycraft, but you can simply add that yourself. Try TPPI with Rotarycraft. Maybe add Resonant Induction, Atomic Science, ICBM and Galacticraft. The first three are tech mods that match what you seem to want and Galacticraft adds another pair of dimensions to explore. If GregTech really bothers you, you can disable it. If it still bothers you try the DW20 pack.

The code for TPPI is MegaSharkPunch. Type that into private packs and you'll get one of the greatest modpacks in a while.

Honestly, I always go for whichever modpack has the most mods, which in this case for 1.6.4 is Monster, so that's what I recommend. I figure that that gives me the most options, and I can decide not to use a mod if I don't like it or think it's OP. And although Monster has configs for GregTech, it doesn't actually have GregTech in it. So you don't have to worry about that. Plus, it has forestry, extra bees, and thaumic bees.

The Direwolf20 pack is a close second. If you like automation, that pack is built for automation because Direwolf.

There is an edit modpack button at the top of the launcher. Once you click on that there is an add mod button. Then you'll search your computer for the file. If there is some kind of ID conflict it gets a bit more complicated. You'll need to go into the configs, but I can't explain that now.

You seem like you'd really enjoy the Resonant Rise pack via the ATLauncher.

There's Chocolate quest which adds the occasional very large dungeons with various mobs and unique items. Plus Hardcore Ender Expansion makes the End more interesting.
