So I am deliberating whether to use MFR's Industrial Fertilizer or IC2's fertilizer for my MFR tree farm. MFR fertilizer seems easier to come across, using cows and sewers, leading to a composter to create it, but the cows don't produce nearly enough sewage. IC2's fertilizer looks much easier to create masses of, due to the infinite recipe, but is there a way of autocrafting that is fast enough to keep up? Any ideas are appreciated.

Over clocked recyclers + igneous extruders are your friend
Just make sure you turn off yet another of Greg's stupid recipe changes (which disables stone in recyclers)

I don't know what type of output you are looking for, but a 15x15 (silver upgrade) MFR tree farm with oak can supply 5 max size HP boilers with charcoal, completely without fertilizer.

I would go with ic2 fertilizer. Just build a bunch of igneous extruders and use a router to pull it out of all of them, and then put all that cobble into overclocked recyclers for a bunch of scrap to make into fertilizer. I'm not sure if it works with older versions of mfr, but in the latest versions you can use forestry fertilizer, so if you have a bunch of apatite laying around you don't need, you could use that.

Can it really? I knew mfr farms were good, but wow that sounds like a lot of power from a little tree farm.

Doing it that way is really relying more on vanilla growth rates, so the bigger the farm you can make, the better (a very good idea with wheat farms where fertilizer doesn't guarantee max growth). In my experience though, an emerald upgraded sewer in a sufficiently sized animal pen will adequately supply 15 max size hp boilers when using jungle saplings with unupgraded farms/harvesters. The excess vines do get a little ridiculous though...

You obviously need more cows, and larger sewers.

Forestry's fertilizer is a nice option if you hate cows because of how much of it you can get from a single stack of apatite.

MFR sewage and composter got a really nice boost when he added the upgardes. You can make self sustaining supplies of fertlizer with just one sweage collector and some animals. Use someting like cows or chickens and you can use the rancher to make that sewage farm do double duty. Add a breader and cronotyper and pull the babies and and ship them to a slaughter hosue for meat or a grinder for esence. All in one system there. MFR can get really nice if you dig into its parts and look at what you can stack up.

Sewers provide the most "free" solution. IC2 is scrap + bone meal, so it's the most accessible. Grinding apatite also provides non-renewable fertilizer, but a hell of a lot of it.

I use MFR fertilizer as it allows me to use up the wheat I produce/string I will be producing from my cave spider spawner. It's the solution which allows me to utilize the most of my resources. Though I do have 23k scrap boxes and could easily go that other route, this way allows me to somewhat reduce clutter in my AE system (as futile as my attempts are, given the exponential rate to which I gain such resources >_>).

I was working on a MFR based solution to boilers and biofuel before I got distracted by the lure of a fresh world on a different modpack. As Saice says, upgraded sewer stuck to a decent sized pen/pens leads to plenty of sewage. I was running cows, pigs, and a smaller set of specific colored sheep pens. Run the animal farm setup and get sewage, meat, mob essence, and whatever other drops+milk from the cow rancher for a shockingly low cost/setup once you get a feel for it.

For easy fire and forget fertilizer I'd go with MFR and an appropriate amount of animals to poop with. I was running different sized farms of basically everything off of it. You'd be surprised at the rate you end up needing fertilizer as well with a tree farm for most uses.

IC fertilizer + bonemeal. Just make one from scrap and you're golden.

I never got around to doing it, but if understand everything right, then this should work:

set two chests around an automatic crafting table, fill one with bonemeal, pump the output out and into the other one, let the overflow go into your system.

But that isn't over-designed and baroque at all!

If I don't have to navigate crowded walkways surrounded by bundles of pipes/cables/rednet/conduits/infinitubes etc etc I hardly know I'm home. Sure it may be inefficient and less simple but reduced down enough even modded Minecraft becomes less of a game and more a spreadsheet with growing values.

Go nuts and build a nightmarish animal torture complex to grow your trees. It will all be worth it in the end. I swear.

Funny you should mention that.

I had a picture I'd like to share with you in my deleted ot thread, a giant matrixesque cow + mfr sewer pods machine, too bad it got wiped.

Might do later, find the screenie in my backups.
