Hey guys,
I was wondering what would be the best/most efficient biofuel setup, normally I wouldn't bother you guys, and I would just youtube it, but from what I've seen the best setups have incorporated RP2 and since that not in the mix anymore I wanted to see what others were doing.

My setup right now is a bunch of Coke ovens that pump there creosote to fermenters, and their coal coke to steam engines (to power fermenters and such) and then feeding it saplings through a steve's cart tree farm.

Note: it's called ethanol now.

Well, what you could do is have a tree farm running on forestry apple oak saplings (alternatively you could use te orchard), send the wood to coke ovens, send the saplings to fermenters, and send the apples to fermenters. Also, you should set up a few extra fermenters exclusively for creosote oil, or use some you have already.

Oh, I almost forgot, use the gregtech distillation tower for converting it to ethanol. It is more power efficient and the ratio is (iirc) 2 buckets biomass:1 bucket ethanol. The only the wrong bad is that it is ridiculously expensive for what it does.

I cant use gregtech, but with regards to the tree farm, how do you make a tree farm for apple oak? I tried it with steves carts, but it wouldnt accept the saplings.

MFR planter & harvester, if you want to go overdrive add a fertilizer and be amazed by the amount of resources.

Feed as many seeds/saplings/crops as you can to a MFR bio-reactor, then send the output to a MFR unifier (you don't even need pipes, just place them side-by-side). Then, extract the ethanol from the unifier.
Force saplings from Dartcraft (incoming controversy!) also generate a ton of biomass, if you'd rather not abuse MFR but can't be bothered with tree breeding.

Refined Bees would be an alternative.

Even after the 1.5.2 nerfs a Refined Bee still produces a Petroleum Comb every cycle at "Fastest" speed. 60% chance to get a propolis, two of them to get a bucket of Ethanol. This translates to 36 Ethanol/hour, exactly what you need to support a 36HP boiler. And you also get 36 Oil/hour (which was a lot higher before the nerfs), enough to power another 3x 36HP boilers.

I'm was using this setup in my 152wgt world, used Fastest Speed/Longest Life Bees and got consistently 38-40 buckets Ethanol and Fuel per hour. One bee was supplying 4 boilers (actually 8x 36LP boilers) and there was still a tiny reserve left over.

Wasn't the biomass produced by the force saplings nerfed by 1/2?

For the best ethanol production you want to get into tree breeding and create yourself a tree species with the highest sapling count and sappiness traits you can find, ideally combined into a tree with a lot of leaves in a narrow, tall shape. Run a tree farm with that tree (MFR can't handle genome saplings, so you'll need to use Forestry or Steve's Carts).

Also create another type of tree species that produces a lot of squeezable fruit with high juice ratings. Run a Forestry multifarm configured as orchard with a bunch of those trees. Though considering you're dealing with maxed-out saplings, you'll probably need more than one.

That way, you can easily get a dozen saplings or more per tree felled, each of which converts into 2.25 buckets of biofuel as long as you have fruiit juice available. 25-30 buckets per tree felled, sounds nice, doesn't it? ;)

No kidding, I guess I know what my long term goal will be in unleashed. I wonder how many boilers you could get going with that setup using a galgadorian wood cutter running 24/7?

So can the liquid fired steam boilers run on this "ethanol"? I'm looking to move away from crude oil with Unleashed.

Of course it can. One bucket of ethanol is worth a third of a bucket of refined fuel, just like in a combustion engine.
