I understand that and, where my SC tree farm is concerned, I certainly will do. What I won't do, however, is run ME cabling all the way to my 2ndary base which is 4,000 blocks away and that's what I was mainly referring to.
Before AE was invented, I don't ever remember people saying that they needed to be able to access all their chests and barrels from thousands of blocks away or from other dimensions. Ever since AE, though, people seem to need this feature. I just use link books or a portal gun to get back to my base.

What, you don't remember Logistics Pipes + Teleport Pipes back in the 1.2.x days?

Actually, no I don't. I've never played with LP, and my first experience of mods was back in December last year.
That would be why you don't remember, then. Before your day, sonny. But back in the days of 1.2.x... and that was before SSP went to internal servers so there was less lag and you could actually bounce ghast balls back at 'em properly... we had Logistics Pipes and Teleport Pipes. Now, you had to be careful, the teleport pipes had to be hooked up to a Basic Logistic Pipe, and it had to be configured to accept input and output, and you could only have one pair of teleport pipes per frequency or it turned into an intersection without a LP and caused bad things to happen, but it was great. You could hook up a base thousands of blocks away to your home base with a LP and a TP.

I've started building a system for remote access, but it's kind of complicated and resource-intensive in that it takes up two full stacks of whatever resource you want to access, and requries one Router per item type.

If one wants a permanent network at a distant location with set stock levels of items, rather than a traveller's pouch, this can be done a bit more cheaply (router wise) with just level emitters and a lot of importers/exporters clustered around ender chests, some redstone logic and wireless redstone to turn import/export off and do general clearing out of the chest when levels are reached or defined states change. It mostly depends on what is going to be more expensive, making more ender chests or making more routers. One can also deal with the problem of keeping a stack of stuff in a router/chest by having a router dedicated to clearing out the routers/chest on state changes. Remember that routers do turn off with a redstone signal and that signal can be a level emitter.

Yes, I started off with a separate ME network that had a Storage Bus on the Ender Chest as its only storage, using Level Emitters to tell the main ME Network when to put items into the chest, but that got overly complex, often overshot the level (which is no problem if I set it to 60 torches, but isn't great when I want just 1 bucket of water) and I kept accidentally connecting the networks together. The Router system is much more compact and intuitive.

I wouldn't say that enderchests or routers are expensive compared to the ME components. I was short of quartz for a long while, but had plenty of everything else due to AE being late added to the pack.

At the risk of the mod author(s) reading this thread I'm going to post what I suppose quite a few people are thinking but not yet expressing lol.

IMHO, one thing is currently missing from AE to make it even more powerful and awesome than it already is: the ability to access resources in your storage system (and thus also in your autocrafting system) from remote locations.

Now before anyone yells at me...I know the wireless access terminal sort of provides for that but that is limited to (iirc) 16 upgrades thrown into the wireless terminal. My base isn't extremely large but I cannot access my storage from the location of my tree farm, for instance.

What I'd personally love to see (and which is probably going to be referred to as "OP") is the ability to create a network and be able to access that from a base in the sky or a lookout tower or even a secondary base some 2k blocks away from my main base. I realise I could run ME cables all that distance but that doesn't quite cut it lol.

Just some random and fun thoughts I'm throwing about...obviously I can live without having it but this would make it truly amazing.

Cheers,
Bel*.

logistics pipes and be hooked up to the me storage to give you access to your items from any where...rather easy to stup up to. but you cant access auto crafting from it unless you set it up with logistics pipes
