Hi, I am a new member to the minecraft community (although I have played vanilla briefly in the past). Me and a few friends decided to rent a server with FTB infinity modpack. I was wondering which mods were best to begin with as I have no experience with any of them. I have created a smeltery and got some way into TiC but that's about it. Should I be using Thermal Expansion, Ender IO, IC2?
Hope you guys can help!

I won't say that you'll need to start with one of those mods. But you can, for example, set a goal.
As an example: An IC2 nuclear reactor, a full working quarry with automated storage, etc.

Some early game goals:

Ore doubling - Although the smeltery does the job I like the Thermal Expansion pulverizer. You also need some power generation, like a stirling generator or a bunch of survivalist generators and an energy cell as a buffer.
Tree farm - planter + harvester from Minefactory Reloaded is good, just remember to dump the sludge from the harvester.
Jetpack

Once you get the basics done you can look into a quarry to save you from manual mining. From there on it's really up to you.

After a smeltery I usually make a pulverizer and a redstone furnace from Thermal Expansion and a sag mill and alloy smelter from EnderIO. After that I focus on planning and building a base and starting a basic ME system.

Thanks guys this really helped! I had a quick look through some guides and I think I'm going to try and mess around with some power sources and stuff to start (watched some videos on lava pumps within the nether) and then have a go at your suggestions also!
