I wanted to use a filler to fill everything beneath the marked area (flatten pattern), only to find out it stops on the first mob that's in the way (it does this with every recipe btw, not just flatten pattern :p). Not only that, it seems to be impossible to change this (e.g. there's no option to change this in the config files).

Anybody else have ANY gripes with the BC filler? =)

well its the same as you placing a block, you cant place a block if theres a cow there so why should the filler be able to?

You can drop sand/gravel on mobs, or players, so the mechanic is already in the game to have a block occupy the same space as a mob.

Why can't that be modified from gravity dropping to placing in a mob/player occupied space?

Also, can't a piston push a solid block onto a mob/player?

I would understand if it would just skip the mob, but completely stopping the filler doesn't really make sense. I mean it slurps MJ's even when there's no recipe or items to fill with.

I never liked this either, I would rather like it that they filler kills the mob instead and keeps going.
to keep placing blocks while an entity is there might be a problem, as you can't place a block when an entity is in the way, so the filler would actually need to kill the mob instead. then again, people might then use the filler as a method to auto-kill mobs xD

my other "gripes" with buildcraft are the way facades, pipe plugs and gates work on pipes. they're hard to place, and even harder to remove without having to break the actual pipe.
I also don't like how the assembly table and advanced crafting table need lasers. don't get me wrong, I like the lasers, but I wish the machines had an energy buffer so you could charge the tables when they are not working, and get your work done faster when they need to work.
I also don't really see a point in the advanced crafting table, because if you need to create large amounts of an item you might aswell just do it yourself. I also don't like how slow the assembly table is, and that it's not really early game. I would use the gates alot more often if I could start making them alot sooner then it is right now. I also don't like how you can't really automate the assembly tables.

and I miss my builder :(

If you are not close, the mob will de-spawn. Unless it's a chicken or other passive. Or unless it's picked up a piece of rotten flesh or other drop. Oh, and it also stops if it finds lava and also possibly water. I think it should have a "skip" mode that will leave gaps where there are mobs or liquids.

I'm just curious about the filler, didn't they change it so blocks were instantly deleted when they popped out? I ran the filler recently and all the blocks were just lying around on the ground. I'd prefer if it deleted the blocks instead of putting a strain on the server and/or my computer rendering all those stupid little blocks.

Last I used it, the items weren't instantly deleted, but had their despawn timers set to 10s instead of 5 minutes, but you should have seen that in the time that you were watching your filler

There is a config option for that.
You can set it to destroy blocks or you can adjust the lifespan of dropped blocks.

It depends on the block type. "Soft" blocks that you can break with your hands to get the item; dirt, sand, logs etc will get a 5 minutes timer. Stone, Coal and other "hard" blocks that don't drop anything if you break it with your hand will last only 1 second.
