I'm looking for the best way to supply my Mass Fabricator with scrap via a barrel. Redstone engines are too slow, and anything else is too fast. I did try using gates, but it hasn't worked out so far. I'm probably doing something wrong though. With that, any help achieving this would be awesome.

i use a filter beneath my barrel on a 1-2 second timer. it feeds into pneumatic tube to my 3 recyclers with hoppers. it does fairly well since the recyclers have 8 overclockers a piece. i still can't get a scrap surplus inside the mass fab but its close enough for me

For most of your item problems, routers are the answer.

This is one of them.

or if you don't mind the cost, RP inventory managers. put one on the mass fab and one on the barrel (note that for the barrel, the manager needs to be on the bottom, and if you are using the vanilla IC2 mass fab, the manager also needs to be on the bottom there)

or if you are quite advanced and want to spend the materials, go the AE way

I have a simple setup, but it works great. I have a ton of recyclers making me scrap so I turn them into scrap boxes. I have the barrel (that holds the scrap boxes) only about 2-3 blocks from my mass fab, then I have a cobble structure pipe with a gate that read, no amplifier - redstone signal, which then leads to a fiter under my barrel. It's pretty good, but sometimes I find that the mass fab is empty, and getting a signal.

This. Learn RP2 inventory management.

I'm not sure why routers never crossed my mind. They've worked great for similar setups. I'll also look into a RP2 setup. Many thanks.

I can't wait until FTB updates to 1.5 (well, 1.6). Vanilla hoppers would make problems like this entirely trivial.
