What would change in the world?
How would you work-around?

Alright, I'll start off:

Worlds would look awesome... Mmh, since smooth stone doesn't regenerate anymore, I'd probably setup a vanilla cobble generator.

Find a steel pick/shovel in a blacksmith, break coal and smelt seared bricks. make all metal tools in TiC.

This'll be an interesting run since fuel is non-renewable until the solid mid game with biofuel stuff.

Depending on the pack, I'd craft my ores into ingots with a Minium Stone. And I'd put autosmelting on all my tools.

Well, that also limits you on stuff diamonds make, so no Enchanting, no Chunkloaders, no Twilight. That's the point of this game, seeing how much you rely on one thing. It's not just about tools.

Thermal expansion/Buildcraft and a power converter/forestry biogenny.
I think the magnetiser doesn't use rubber and un-insulated cables look pretty neat. As long as I have metal boots this work fine.
Hopefully rubber wood is ok- time get a brew on

Tinkers construct smeltery for doubling ores. Otherwise, make do without machines.
