I will say: that wasn't always a feature - in the very earliest versions of Tinker's Construct, you couldn't do that. It was very frustrating!
If you have ender io the top tier fluid pipes have built in filters. You can filter with extra utilities 2 liquid transfer nodes. BC should have a diamond fluid pipe that can filter by direction.
