I want the byproduct of using the sawmill - the sawdust - to automatically be compressed by some nature of machine and then sent through a transport pipe. How would I achieve this? I've tried a project table to no avail.

Buildcraft autocrafting table will do that.

Buildcraft autocrafting table will do that.

I've not played with the outputs yet but I imagine and single BC pipe to a chest since it auto deploys the finished item. Then a filter or a sorting machine to send the dust to a auto crafting table as mentioned above. Not sure if that is exactly right, but it would be something to that effect.

I think I'm misunderstanding the logistics of it.

Here's my setup right now and the problem is readily evident in the second image:

I thought you had to use something to pull items out of the auto-crafting table for it to work, rather than it just crafting and dropping items.

Also, there's the factorization packager that you can try out. It tries to craft items in a 2x2 grid, and then in a 3x3 grid, so it should automate this like it does for blocks, sans Gregtech config to make blocks in compressors.

Edit: Nope, packager wouldn't work then. What you can do is have the dust go into a chest next to the ACT, as it will pull from adjacent chests when auto-crafting. That way you shouldn't get that problem.

I was typing that as you posted your picture :X Thought the recipe was a full 3x3 grid, which the packager can do, but it can't do the 3x3 with an empty center. You can try what I mentioned in the edit above though.

Yeah you have the dust go into the auto crafting table then you have a filter or some other RP2 sorting machine pull the newly crafted item from the top of the auto crafting table.

So yea, looking at his setup it should be sawmill -> chest -> ATC connected to wooden pipe + engine/aut gate or some RP2 machine that draws items from something.

This is what I've tried, still no dice:

Oh and no worries about making me craft the other thing, I'll probably find a use for it eventually and I'm fine for resources.

The sawmill if Thermal expansion works like I think it does the ATC should receive the dust automatically he should just need the Wooden BC piped and engine or RP2 machine to pull from the top.

As we mentioned, you'd need something extracting items from the ATC, much like you'd set up a wooden pipe with an engine attached to extract items from a chest, which means without that it can't work. The chest just makes it run more smoothly as the items never actually enter the table, so they don't enter one slot at a time.

Edit: Though also regarding the chest to make it run smoother, you could possibly make it so the sawmill doesn't auto-eject its items and stores the dust and see if the ATC will use it as if it were a chest. It's one of the only problems with the ATC, in that if you have multiple instances of the same item it tries to fill each stack one at a time if you just pipe it in : /

So the ATC will pull straight from a chest? I had forgotten about that. Glad you got it working.

Yes. It's also the only way to get them to work like that without logistic pipes. Even with them you have to use that setup to craft with materials that don't stack.

Yep. It's quite handy, as you can put 4 ACT around one chest. You can pump out of the sides of the ACT as well as the top. Allows for some compact crafting to take place.
If I found the chest was overfilling with a certain material, I put a filter underneath it to maintain a stock level and sent the excess back into my system, bit like the manager block, but less efficient.

Man that would for some fairly hardcore autocrafting lol. Kind of annoying atm I seem to not be able to get my restone engines working. Has anyone else had problems with this?
