Helloo,
I'm debating creating a massive treefarm which runs a ton of coke ovens (on ftb monster). Is there a way to automate the creation of the Coke Oven multiblocks? All of the individual bricks I can make, but I've yet to find a good way to set up all of the ovens. And I intend to make at least 100, so making them all manually sounds like a major ball-ache :p

Anyone have any bright ideas?

BC Builder is still disabled as far as I know. Turtles sound promising, something to just make them build the same structure over and over. That way I could even have them set up itemducts :D

Thanks guys! Anyone have a link to a guide on making Turtle programs which place blocks?

I recommend MFFS in custom mode. This can create any structure. MFFS is also modest in its power requirements, even for large structures.

In order to create a row of identical structures, set up the system to create one structure, then add translation modules as required. With enough speed modules, you'll have your 100 coke ovens built in minutes.

Though may I ask: why are you using coke ovens? I've never found a use for so much creosote oil, its production speed is too low for a sizeable liquid firebox, and if you just want the charcoal it's more efficient - not to mention faster - to just cook the wood it in some type of furnace.

I shall take a looksie. Wasn't there a duplication bug with MFFS (think i saw it in a DMAC video)?

I guess that makes a lot of sense if I make one massive bank of coke ovens, then copy them. Will MFFS respect orientation of things like itemducts?

I'm using MFFS extensively to build large structures, and I've never had any duplication bugs. MFFS can move and place tile entities including most machines, and I've moved my wand recharging platform including the nodes with it just yesterday. Itemducts, however, do have a problem with it since they sometimes lose their settings after being moved with the Force Manipulator. I had to remove my itemducts from my mining frame for that reason. I didn't try creating custom structures including itemducts with the Projector yet.

Also, you don't need to create one bank of ovens. Just make one oven, then use translation modules in X and Y direction to create an NxM field of them. You can also use MFFS to flatten terrain. You'll need a ton of diamonds for the speed modules to do that at a tolerable speed, but it takes about 5% of the power a BC filler would use.

Looks like I have a new mod to learn then :D

How much has MFFS changed since V3.0? That's the only spotlight I've found so far.

I've actually done this coke-oven route myself several times, although on half the scale.

Something about it feels more realistic than the regular furnace route, and the creosote byproduct is just a nice bonus.

Its also kind of fun to set up, especially if you use trains of some sort :)

It might take ages to turn one wood to charcoal in one coke oven, but it costs no fuel. The creation speed is offset by making a crapton of them :D

And I'm going to make a light railway all around the map, because mystcraft is boring. That will need lots of creosote, the remainder of which will fuel boilers.

I can't seem to get enough power into the Force Field Projector for it to really do anything. Is there a method to ensure more power is being fed into it? I've got the basic system sussed, but filling the projector takes a long time. I'd like to find a way to match input power and used power, really.

Use speed upgrades in all machines and capacity upgrades in the Coercion Deriver and the Fortron Capacitor. Also, the initial power generation may take a while, but the projector doesn't use much. My setups usually have 64 speed modules in the projector, 48 in the capacitor and 32 in the deriver, plus 10 capacity modules each in the deriver and capacitor. You won't need as many speed upgrades, though, unless you want to build a coke oven in 2-3 seconds. You can also use speed modules in the capacitor and deriver for initial powering up and then move part of them into the projector.

I didn't even think of putting speed upgrades in those! What a derp I am. Thank you all very much, MFFS has done exactly what I needed :D
