So I'm playing Sky Factory 2, and I was wanting to see some ideas for an Automatic Wither Killing Machine. I've looked at the one Captainsparklez did in his playthrough and I liked it, but there was a lot of excess materials being made and that bugs me. Is there a more efficient way of doing it?

How did Cap have it set up? I know that the DW20 route he used in SF3 should work, with modifications, in SF2 - namely, Wither is spawned using something along the lines of block placers and autonomous activators, it drops into a Draconic Evolution portal thing placed horizontally, and that teleports it into a witherproof room where it's killed using a DE mob grinder.

I believe Cap had a magical crops thing making skulls and soul sand, placing the blocks with autonomous activators, then dropping them down to Draconic Evolution Grinder. It worked really well for him but there was a lot of excess soul sand being made and I was kinda wanting to avoid that.

Ah I see! So its the resource generation that's more of an issue. Is there the Ex Nihilo soul sand generation in SF2? That's fairly straightforward to control if you can have something that emits a redstone signal when your storage chest of choice is full.

There is, but that is a bit slow for my tastes... i COULD fine-tune the amount of growth pulsars i use so that four soul sand is generated as fast as three wither skulls, but that would be a pain in the butt.

Hmm. What are you using to harvest your plants? Can it be deactivated with redstone?

Ender IO Farming station... not aware of any others, and yes it can.

Not sure how to do that... may look at RFTools to see if it has anything like that...

That might be a good plan. I believe Storage Drawers, if that's in there, may have some functionality to do that too. As an alternative (depending on how many you want to have in a buffer) a comparator on a vanilla chest should output full 15 redstone signal when the chest is full - I'm sure there must be some way to use that get it to only send a signal while full and not while partly empty?

No storage drawers, and never figured out how to use the comparator properly...

A quick google search brought up the reddit thread linked below - it looks like its fairly straightforward - if I understand correctly, you need the comparator in subtract mode and a constant high signal in the side - that renders it so that only when the chest is full is the signal strong enough after subtraction to be passed along (at power 1) to the other side. The useful thing is, if that signal then goes into, say, a repeater - its boosted back up to normal strength, which can then go via conduits or whatever to go to your farming station. Its a bit vanilla, but it should work ;)

EDIT: thread - https://www.reddit.com/r/redstone/comments/1fxb3s/best_way_to_detect_if_chest_is_full/

You could also have a dedicated farm for soul sand and wither crops exported into drawers with void.
I know that by the time I get to automating Wither Bosses I usually have more RF then needed to keep everything running so harvesting "trash" doesn't mean anything.

You could also set up dedicated farms for each crop and have the drawer emit a Redstone signal when full, thereby shutting down the farm for the unneeded resource.

Yes but this would require 2 separate farms for wither boss. One for Nether seeds/soul sand and one for Wither seeds for the heads.

That is correct. The original post stated issue with excess material being accumulated and a want for something more efficient in that respect. Having two separate farms is the easiest way to manage the two resources without having an overflow of one or the other. Using JABBA Barrels or Storage Drawers ability to emit Redstone signal is a very easy trigger to avoid more cumbersome setups. I figured since he's playing a Skyblock, space isn't an issue (automated cobble/dirt/wood should be early priority) and by the time you're ready to auto-farm the Wither, your resource and power supplies should be a non-issue, so running a second farm would be a simple proposition.

A single farm pumping items into Storage Drawers or JABAA Barrels equipped with Void Upgrades is also an option to avoid overflow, but it didn't fit well with the efficiency request, as it will run full time wasting power and voiding half the drops.

Other options exist, of course, but figuring out the perfect ratios of crops (or how many growth accelerators to use for each crop type) ends up being harder and less predictable than just setting up the second farm.
