Atrocious Performance - Need Help

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title Atrocious Performance - Need Help

Launcher Type Curse App

Modpack FTB Presents Direwolf20 1.10

Modpack version 1.0

Have you modified the pack? No

Link to log file

Details of the issue First of all,if this is the wrong place,I apologise; Just point me to the right place,if that's the case.

I'm running a pretty old and weak system, but, somehow,it can run the (Five year old) Skyrim, plus a panoply of mods. The Direwolf20 pack reduces my game to an intolerable crawl; I'm ballparking it at about 5-10 FPS. How can I improve this, without changing hardware,or installing new drivers? Last time I did that,I damn near bricked this thing; Graphics drivers are NOT readily available for this thing. Specs follow.

Model: HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
RAM: 6 gigs.
CPU: AMD Phenom II P940 Quad-Core @1.70 GHz.
GPU 1: AMD M880G w/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250.
GPU 2: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

I cannot identify which of my GPU's are superior. This computer is old and weak. I regularly call it a craptop for a reason. And,because it's both old,and a laptop,I cannot find either of my cards on any site which allows side-by-side comparison of GPU's. If anyone can help shed some light on that front, that'd be grand.

EDIT: The situation has escalated. Without making any changes to my settings,my computer struggles to even run the main menu. I think I'm just gonna stop trying; For whatever reason, modded Minecraft is too much for this thing.

How much ram do you have allocated?

In hindsight,I really should've put that in. I initially used the default 4 gig RAM allocation. I recently attempted to allocate all 6GB of my RAM,but that didn't help. It's also when the escalation started. I've since dropped it back down to 4GB,to zero improvement.

The 1.10 packs do require more memory than the 1.7.10 ones. The minimum is 4gb but really needs 5 to 6gb.

Did you try my suggestion regarding mipmap.

You just regurgitated information that I already knew, and acted upon of my own volition, which you would know if you read the post immediately before yours. Also,I cannot act on the mipmapping suggestion,as the menu itself runs too slow to operate. I have, however, installed Optifine at a friend's request. Time to see if that helps.

Your system only has 6gb total. Unizero is right saying you need more ram. His restate is a reminder not a new answer.

My bet would be that even optifine won't help. I wouldn't be shocked if you just don't have the ram for 1.10.2

Edit: missed a letter

And Optifine worked. The game is now playable, for me. Installed Optifine, and set everything I could to the fastest possible settings, including background math and render logic. I also turned off mipmapping,to be safe.

Optifine can work, but can also cause more issues. If you do get a crash then remove it first and try again because optifine is not a supported mod.
