Problem ATM3 remix - farming nether wart

Planting nether wart on soul sand in either overworld or nether (with or without adjacent lava) produces nothing - just a popping sound and the seedling vanishes (it does reappear in my inventory after a short interval). Even the NW in fortresses hasn't grown - just remains at the seedling stage.

What's the trick to farming it?

Edit: Crop Sticks does it.

Thanks grandrolf - I didn't notice that there was a tooltip until after someone kindly showed me the Crop Sticks way. TBH, I don't recall ever having seen that tootip - is it AgriCraft-specific? In vanilla MC, NW could always be grown on soul sand in any light, in any world.

Someone did mention lava, so I must have missed the bit about tilling the soul sand.
